India, a developing country with the highest number of young population in the World. India has unfortunately high number of low-birth-weight babies. In 70s it was 32% of babies born and now it is 18% of babies born due to better nutrition but still it is high. Thus, it becomes very important to monitor the development of normal child. There are various stages of development but the most important is that parent and society should recognize that the baby is normal or not. First 5 years of Baby’s life are critical.
Development of Standard for Indian Babies
Development of child in first five years differ in every country because it depends on child’s birth weight, mother’s nutrition and how well the baby is stimulated. Unfortunately for a long-time till late 1970s western standards were transplanted for Indian babies. KEM-TDH center was established 43 years ago and it is the first multidisciplinary complete center in India to diagnose and manage any kind of a challenged child. KEM-TDH center is one of the first center in India to develop normal scales for the development of Indian child from birth onwards. Now these scales are widely accepted for routine testing and care in India. The inputs goes to first five years of live build the future growth of child.
NEED FOR A SUSTAINABLE AND SCALABLE SOLUTION
During Covid Young babies were highly exposed to Mobile or TV and their socialization was restricted. At the same time there is silver line with Hight penetration of Low-cost Wi Fi coupled 4G Mobile phones in the country. “Healthy Baby” Project is a Joint initiative by KEM-Hospital, Pune and Siddh Divyang Foundation.

Last but not the least, founding director of SDF Mr. Uday Mehta and his wife Priti has Experienced the pain and trauma of raising of Divyang Son for more than 34 years. Though “Siddh’s Smile would make their pain disappear”.
